When we planned for Maroon Bells, we didn’t plan to stop at Glenwood Springs. But after seeing the snow forecast a few days before our trip, we realized we couldn’t stay the night at Maroon Bells. And perhaps we need shelter and a nice bed, so we can enjoy the hike the next day. We are so glad we made that decision. It was so cold that we couldn’t hike much anyway. But the to-go breakfast and the hot relaxing bath we took the previous night at Quality Inn still kept us in our senses. Here is why Quality Inn & Suites On The River at Glenwood Springs is the best hotel in Glenwood Springs.
Why did we pick this place?
It was only a few days before our trip and we searched on Expedia, there were very few hotels around 100$. And we almost immediately picked this place because of its location. Sitting right on the Colorado River with the backdrop of mountains, it’s the best place we can ask for. And the price cannot be beaten for its location.
What struck me at first look?
When we entered the reception area, the first thing that caught our attention was the pool. It is right there and inviting us to have a relaxing bath after a long drive. Even the River can be seen and in summer, it is lovely.
Check-in process?
It’s casual with the lady at the counter just giving her usual speech for everyone. But when we extended our talk, she gave some valuable suggestions about visiting Maroon Bells.
What did we love about the room?
It has everything for the price paid. Fridge, microwave, bath accessories, safe lock, and nice reading chair. More than anything, my wife loved instant coffee flavors. It was all she was asking for after a long day.
Are there any special amenities worth talking about?
THE POOL. We felt privileged when we had it for ourselves for some time but even with other people, it was not bad. And then Jacuzzi is unbeatable after a long day of driving.
The best part of the stay?
When we had to check out early at 3 AM, the receptionist allowed us to take to-go breakfast that they were setting up for the next morning. He even gave us some extras from the storage room.
The one other thing to know about the place?
Quality Inn & Suites on the River is most beautiful in summer. To make the most of it, we can hike the trails along the river that are just behind the hotel. The river makes this hotel a little extra special.
In short:
Glenwood Springs can be costly to stay but Quality Inn is the best hotel without any major sacrifices. It has all the beautiful amenities while being close to nature. It is right on the highway I-70, although the roundabouts can be a little confusing for first-timers in the area.
If you are visiting Maroon Bells, Glenwood Springs can be the right stopover. It is about an hour from Aspen but still, this is the place that is not costly and has some best things to do in the area.
Especially, the Colorado River cutting through cliffs is unbeatable. The hike along the river gives some amazing views.
Hanging Lake and Grizzly Creek Trailhead are a few places that cannot be missed. When everything is done, a soothing bath at Glenwood Springs Hot Pool is a must.
