First blog!!!!

To Kickstart this blog. Here is the first recipe from my Childhood. I was born in a place where I can find fresh seafood from the river Godavari. I am sharing this on behalf of my townspeople. Here’s a simple recipe for Fish Pulusu, a traditional Andhra fish curry.

Ingredients:

  • 500g fish (any firm-fleshed variety like tilapia, cod, or salmon). I used Costco tilapia here.
  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • 3 medium-sized tomatoes, chopped
  • 2-3 curry leaves strands
  • 3-6 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 bulb smashed garlic
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste (or soak a small lemon-sized ball of tamarind in water and extract pulp)
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Chana dal
  • 1 tsp Jeera
  • 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds powder
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions:

  1. Clean and cut the fish into pieces. Marinate with turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, Chana dal & Jeera seeds. Let them splutter and turn into golden brown.
  3. Add smashed garlic.
  4. Add chopped onions, green chilies, and curry leaves, and Sauté for a minute.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  6. Add red chili powder, coriander powder, Jeera powder, fenugreek seeds powder, and turmeric powder. Mix well.
  7. Add tamarind paste and water. Bring it to a boil.
  8. Once the curry starts boiling, add the marinated fish pieces. Gently mix to coat the fish with the curry.
  9. Don’t Cover(fish will be mushy) and cook for 8-10 minutes on medium heat or until the fish is cooked through.
  10. Garnish with curry leaves and chopped coriander leaves.
  11. Serve hot with steamed rice.

Enjoy your flavorful Fish Pulusu!
