First blog!!!!
To Kickstart this blog. Here is the first recipe from my Childhood. I was born in a place where I can find fresh seafood from the river Godavari. I am sharing this on behalf of my townspeople. Here’s a simple recipe for Fish Pulusu, a traditional Andhra fish curry.
Ingredients:
- 500g fish (any firm-fleshed variety like tilapia, cod, or salmon). I used Costco tilapia here.
- 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
- 3 medium-sized tomatoes, chopped
- 2-3 curry leaves strands
- 3-6 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 bulb smashed garlic
- 1 tbsp tamarind paste (or soak a small lemon-sized ball of tamarind in water and extract pulp)
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Chana dal
- 1 tsp Jeera
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds powder
- Curry leaves
- Coriander leaves, chopped
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp oil
Instructions:
- Clean and cut the fish into pieces. Marinate with turmeric powder and salt. Keep aside.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, Chana dal & Jeera seeds. Let them splutter and turn into golden brown.
- Add smashed garlic.
- Add chopped onions, green chilies, and curry leaves, and Sauté for a minute.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add red chili powder, coriander powder, Jeera powder, fenugreek seeds powder, and turmeric powder. Mix well.
- Add tamarind paste and water. Bring it to a boil.
- Once the curry starts boiling, add the marinated fish pieces. Gently mix to coat the fish with the curry.
- Don’t Cover(fish will be mushy) and cook for 8-10 minutes on medium heat or until the fish is cooked through.
- Garnish with curry leaves and chopped coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
Enjoy your flavorful Fish Pulusu!
